Simona Halep provisionally suspended after testing positive for banned substance
Simona Halep has been provisionally suspended for an indefinite period from competition following a failure of a doping test conducted on 12 September.
According to a statement issued by the Commission de Surveillance du Sport Athlétique (CSSAS), the sample taken from the Serb showed the presence of a banned substance.
The Commission, which oversees the French tennis authorities, has placed Halep on suspension, pending the conclusion of the investigation.
Halep has been provisionally suspended for one year, beginning today, until November 8, 2018.
“The Commission suspends Simona Halep’s participation in the women’s singles and doubles events of the French Open for a period of one year, starting today, until November 8, 2018,” said a statement on Thursday from the French Tennis Federation.
“The French Tennis Federation will continue with its investigations, with the aim of establishing whether the positive result is in accordance with the rules and regulations of the French Tennis Federation’s Code of Ethics.”
