The daughter of a San Francisco Democrat killed by a Paul Pelosi attacker says she was raped and sexually abused as a teen by the congressman’s son.
Kamala Harris said on Tuesday that the attack on her father in 1990 at a rally of anti-war protesters in San Francisco was an “abhorrent, unthinkable act” and “rape on this body of men … from a rapist at that.”
But she said that her father’s attacker was “consumed by darkness,” and that Pelosi’s son should be held accountable for “that which he did 20 years ago.” She added that she thinks Pelosi “should have to pay the price for his actions.”
“There is a price that should be paid for what he did … an appropriate price,” Harris said of her father. “I’m hoping that he will do the appropriate thing and that it will help his own family.”
Harris’s father, Paul Pelosi, was one of three people killed during a violent encounter between anti-war protesters and the San Francisco police in December 1990.
A month after the attack, Harris said in an interview on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” that she grew up with her father’s PTSD, and that she had watched him “come to understand the dark side of humanity.”
She said her father was an “innocent man,” but that she and her brother “both grew up learning … not to trust the cops.”
“And just, I think, learning … how to look at those dark, scary, evil parts of our humanity in order to understand them,” she said. “And I think it was that relationship with his trauma and his darkness that made him so caring as a man.”
